ARRI has introduced the ALEXA 35 Xtreme, a major update to its ALEXA 35 line that raises frame rates, extends pre-recording, improves connectivity, and cuts power draw, while debuting ARRICORE, a next-generation RGB codec designed to preserve image quality at lower data rates. The Xtreme can be purchased new or configured as an upgrade for existing ALEXA 35 bodies.

Built around a more powerful main processor with increased on-board memory, the ALEXA 35 Xtreme reaches up to 660 fps in Sensor Overdrive (11 stops), with up to 330 fps maintained at the camera’s full 17 stops of dynamic range. Pre-recording is now five times longer: up to 30 seconds at 24 fps in 4.6K Open Gate ProRes 4444, or 5 minutes at 24 fps in HD ProRes 422 HQ—the longest pre-roll currently available in a cinema camera.

ARRI ALEXA 35 Xtreme

ARRICORE keeps sensitivity, white balance, and tint adjustable in post, while aligning with established ALEXA 35 workflows (ALF4 look files, ARRI Textures, MXF wrapper, metadata, and audio). It launches in beta to gather user feedback, and most tools that already support ALEXA 35 codecs are expected to support ARRICORE as well.

Additional refinements include approximately 10% lower power consumption versus ALEXA 35 and more robust wireless performance: 5 GHz Wi-Fi, roaming across mesh networks, and automatic reconnection to known networks. Despite the higher performance, the camera keeps the compact ALEXA 35 form factor and full mechanical/connector layout, ensuring broad compatibility with ARRI’s ecosystem (lens mounts, AEM-1, PDM-1, Hi-5, LPS-1) and CODEX Compact Drive 2TB/1TB and Express 1TB media.

Licensing & availability

ALEXA 35 Xtreme sets will be offered with either a Base or Premium license, and existing ALEXA 35 Base feature licenses can be applied to Xtreme Base on weekly, monthly, yearly, or perpetual terms. Pricing for sets and licenses mirrors current ALEXA 35 pricing. To protect prior investments, ARRI will upgrade ALEXA 35 Base, Premium, or Live units to ALEXA 35 Xtreme for €15,900 at selected ARRI Service Centers. Cameras and upgrades are expected from August 2025.
