Professional XDCAM Workflow Integration
The Sony PDW-U4 is a portable, high-performance drive unit designed to bridge the gap between Professional Disc media and IT-based workflows. Compatible with both PC and Mac, it allows users to view media files via free Sony software and provides full read/write access for non-linear editing (NLE) systems. As the successor to the PDW-U1 and PDW-U2, the PDW-U4 offers significant performance leaps and expanded media support.
Universal XDCAM Format Support
The PDW-U4 is engineered to handle a wide range of media files, including XDCAM HD422, XDCAM HD, and XDCAM SD formats. Beyond video, users can record standard PC data files to a dedicated User Data folder on the same Professional Disc media, making it a versatile tool for data archiving and transport.
High-Capacity Quad-Layer Media
Maximize your storage potential with support for quad-layer write-once (PFD128QLW), triple-layer (PFD100TLA), dual-layer (PFD50DLA), and single-layer (PFD23A) Professional Discs. Utilizing quad-layer media provides up to 128 GB of capacity on a single disc, enabling over four hours of recording at HD422 50 Mbps.
Advanced Dual Channel Head System
Equipped with newly developed 2x DCHS (Dual Channel Head System) technology, the PDW-U4 delivers speeds approximately 2.0x faster for reading and 1.7x faster for writing compared to the PDW-U2. This 4-channel dual DCHS drive technology significantly reduces ingest times and improves overall system performance.
Flexible Connectivity and Power
Connect seamlessly via USB 3.2, 3.1, 3.0, or 2.0. For peak performance, USB 3.0 or higher is recommended. The drive also supports USB Type-C Power Delivery (20 V, 3 A, 60 W), allowing it to run directly from a compatible PC or Mac without the need for an external AC adaptor.
Compact and Ergonomic Design
The PDW-U4 maintains the proven ergonomic heritage of its predecessors while offering a lightweight, compact footprint. Its versatile design allows for both horizontal and vertical operation to fit any workspace configuration.
