The Vocas EL-40 Eyepiece Loupe brings a magnetic, tool-free magnified viewfinder to the Sony PXW-Z300 and FX6 — designed around one loupe, swappable brackets, and the operators who rely on what they see.

Vocas is pleased to announce the introduction of the EL-40 Eyepiece Loupe, a precision-engineered magnified viewfinder designed for operators who depend on their camera's LCD in demanding conditions. Featuring high-quality optics, a tool-free magnetic mounting system, and a modular design that adapts to multiple Sony cameras, the EL-40 turns any compatible LCD into a sunlight-proof, ergonomic eyepiece. The loupe is available now for the Sony PXW-Z300 and the Sony FX6, with additional camera-specific attachments in development.

Built from a combination of metal and high-tech composites, the EL-40 is engineered to withstand the rigours of professional camera work while remaining lightweight enough for handheld and shoulder-mounted use. Its premium optics enlarge the LCD image and effectively shield the display from ambient sunlight, ensuring clear visibility even in harsh outdoor environments. For operators who routinely work in mixed lighting — from broadcast journalism to documentary production — the result is a viewfinder experience that closes the gap between a small open LCD and a traditional eyepiece.

The distinctive red focus ring offers precise, tactile diopter adjustment, while an M52 thread beneath the soft rubber eyecup accepts close-up filters to further extend the focus range.

"We designed the EL-40 for camera operators who can't afford a compromised view of what they're shooting," said lead-designer Bas Ladru from the Vocas product team. "Whether it's a journalist filming under bright sun, a documentary maker capturing handheld shots over long days, or a corporate crew moving between rigs, the loupe needed to be optically excellent, mechanically reliable, and quick to put on and take off."

A Tool-Free, Magnetic Mounting System

Central to the EL-40 is a tool-free magnetic mounting system. The loupe slides effortlessly over the LCD and locks into place with a secure "click" — no screws, no levers, no fumbling between takes. A camera-specific bracket fits over the original LCD arm and adds friction to lock out horizontal play, reinforcing vertical positioning so the screen stays exactly where the operator wants it, even with the loupe's added weight.

When access to the LCD's touch controls is needed, the loupe flips up without detaching — keeping menu navigation and focus-touch features within easy reach. Removal is just as fast: pull the bracket away from the loupe first, then slide the loupe off the LCD. The whole exchange takes seconds.

One Loupe, Multiple Cameras

The EL-40 is built around a modular philosophy: a single base unit pairs with a camera-specific bracket. Operators who work with more than one Sony camera body do not need to buy a second loupe — only the matching attachment. The same EL-40 base unit can move from a Sony PXW-Z300 to a Sony FX6, and back again, by swapping the bracket.

At launch, two complete kits are available — one for the PXW-Z300 and one for the FX6 — alongside the standalone base unit and each bracket sold separately. Brackets for additional camera bodies are currently in development, meaning the base unit a customer buys today will continue to find new homes as the system grows.

Engineered Around the Operator

Every detail of the EL-40 has been considered for sustained professional use. The eyepiece is positioned at a natural viewing angle to support comfortable handheld shooting over long takes. The signature red focus ring delivers a tactile, precise diopter adjustment that helps operators find their sweet spot in seconds. The soft rubber eyecup provides a light-tight seal that further blocks stray ambient light.

For applications that need a closer working distance — extreme close-ups, product work, or specific framing scenarios — the optional Vocas M52 Close-up Filter Set (+2 and +3) drops into the M52 thread beneath the eyecup to extend the diopter range.
